Privacy Policy

Short version: MeadMate stores your brewing data locally on your device. We don't collect your name, email, or any personal details. Community recipe features use an anonymous ID that cannot be traced back to you.

1. Who we are

MeadMate is developed and published by Perpetual Prototypes. For privacy questions, contact us at meadmate@perpetualprototypes.io.

2. What data the app stores locally

All of the following is stored only on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

Batch records (name, dates, gravity readings, notes, status)
Fermentation logs (specific gravity, temperature, timestamps)
Recipes, nutrient schedules, and checklists you create
Photos you attach to batches (stored in your device's local storage)
Equipment inventory items
App settings (units, theme, name, notification preferences)

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the backup/export feature, which saves a file to your own device for you to manage.

3. Community features and the data we receive

MeadMate has optional community recipe features. When you use these features:

Anonymous device ID — A randomly generated UUID (e.g. a1b2c3d4…) is created at install time. It is not linked to your identity in any way. We use this to attribute recipe submissions and votes, and to prevent duplicate votes.
Recipe submissions — If you choose to submit a recipe to the community library, the recipe content (ingredients, method, target gravity) and your anonymous device ID are sent to our API. No personal information is included.
Votes (up/downvote) — Your anonymous device ID and the recipe ID are recorded when you vote. No personal data is transmitted.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, payment information, or any other personally identifiable information.

4. Data we receive automatically

Our API server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) receives standard web request metadata when you use community features, including:

IP address (retained for up to 24 hours in Cloudflare's access logs, then discarded)
Request timestamp and HTTP method
App version string

We do not use this information to identify individuals and we have no analytics platform installed.

5. Hosting and infrastructure

Our API and website are hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to infrastructure-level data. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any third-party analytics service.

6. Push notifications

If you enable reminders, MeadMate schedules local push notifications on your device using the operating system's notification API. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on-device — no notification content is transmitted to our servers.

7. Photos

Photos you attach to batches are stored in your app's local storage. They are not uploaded to any server. If you share a PDF export, any photos included are sent only to whatever destination you choose (e.g. your email client or a messaging app).

8. Children's privacy

MeadMate is intended for adults (18+) engaged in legal home fermentation. The app is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

9. Data retention and deletion

Local data — Deleted when you uninstall the app, or earlier if you use in-app data management options.
Community submissions — Recipe submissions and votes associated with your anonymous device ID can be removed on request. Email us with your device ID (visible in the app under Settings) and we will delete associated records within 30 days.
Server logs — Standard Cloudflare logs are retained for up to 24 hours.

10. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Given that we hold no personally identifiable information, there is in practice nothing to access or correct. For requests relating to community submissions tied to your anonymous device ID, contact us at meadmate@perpetualprototypes.io.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
